Summer 2018
The Summer of fun, friends, and vacations
My apologies, normally I'm pretty good about keeping this monthly, but this summer has been the one that got away! It's like writing in your journal, you miss one day and all the sudden it's been three years since your last entry.
Well, to put the summer in a nut shell for you, we've really had a lot of fun. TONS of friends over to play (I dog sit as a side job) It's been a really good social boost for the dogs. Not to mention plenty of play time for them too.
We also took our dogs with us to Oregon and, oh my gosh was that fun! We ran the dogs up and down the beach every evening and let them play in the ocean tides, and they loved it. If I could move there, I would in a heart beat... I don't think the dogs would complain either.
Sedona has been in Show training classes throughout the summer and he is looking beautiful, he's gotten really good at stacking for the judge. Come next summer I think we'll be ready to get him into the ring. Scout is doing great with her agility practice, although I need a little help with my footwork haha! I don't know how many times I've tripped over myself trying to make the right foot turn. It's just as much practice for you as it is for the dog.
We've been on plenty of hikes through the local trails and lots of visits to the lake. Home life has been nice and relaxing. It's always good to have a balance of outdoor adventure and at-home comforts.
Overall, we've had a very fun, dog involved summer and I love the relationship we are growing with our pets. You know, Nate and I never owned a dog before we got married and I think we both always imagined what having a dog would be like. This summer, I think we really became aware of that reality, and it wasn't far off from what we imagined.

Our first ever ASCA Conformation Show!
Well, we did it! Sedona and I had our first ASCA Conformation Show.
If you are new to conformation shows like I am, I didn't really know what to expect, but that's why you can start off young and get your practice in until they're old enough for the big leagues. You can register Puppies from 2-4 months, and 4-6 months to show, and they give you a ribbon for placing so you can see where you are at, but you don't earn points towards their title until they are older. Which takes a little of the pressure off as a new comer to the sport.
This is great practice for you, and your pup when you are just starting out because you get to see what the show ring is like. You get to see how you can improve, and how the competition stacks up! It's also an opportunity to see the culture of dog showing.
Through our dog obedience club, we have been lucky enough to start training with a woman well seasoned in dog showing, and she's a show judge. It has been a fantastic experience learning how positive training and encouragement brings the best out of you and your dog in the show ring. Let's face it, if you are not having fun, and your dog is not having fun, you are doing it for all the wrong reasons. Have fun no matter the outcome, and be driven enough to continually improve.
We had one training class before our first show that gave us at least an idea of what was going to go down in the show ring, and I know we made PLENTY of mistakes (we were late when called to the ring, I had no idea what the judge meant when she told us to "go in a circle", and Sedona wouldn't open his mouth when the judge asked to check his teeth... to name a few!) Haha, don't expect to be perfect when starting out, that's okay! Just keep on, keepin' on. We all have to start somewhere. We ended up placing 3rd, and I'm happy with that! In fact I'm proud of us! Because we went, and we actually competed in a show ring, and really we did pretty well for first timers!
This has been a dream of mine, since I was young, and it's cool to know that dreams are achievable if you're willing to act, and make it so.
We are continuing our training weekly and we can't wait to see what the next show brings! Onward, and Upward!
Gone in 60 seconds...
...Really it was more like 5 seconds! We've been experimenting with some fresh foods to add to our Aussies diet. We have them on a dry dog food (Natures Domain) that we supplement with Platinum Performance (which they do fantastic on btw, I highly recommend it!)
We're really interested in learning how we can better feed our dogs, and give them a variety in their diet. So, hey, why not try something fresh and new? In their bowls above, we cooked up some scrambled egg, threw in some carrots, boiled duck, a pumpkin ice cube, and Platinum Performance supplement powder. Simple, and random, but they loved it!
We continue our journey of knowledge on legitimate research of dog nutrition and what the experts say about dry dog food vs. home-made. Or maybe it's healthier just mixing fresh ingredients in with dry dog food. We'll keep you updated on what we find out!

(And don't worry, aside from Sedona licking the bowls clean, Scout got her portion too!)

Happy Chinese New Year!
This year is the year of the dog!
They represent faithfulness, loyalty, and friendship.
During Chinese New Year, families usually spend time together to celebrate the new year. It's also a wonderful time to spend with your furry family too!
Rub your dogs belly for good luck this year!

Happy Valentines Day!
Did you know that when dogs look at you, they have the same reaction we do when we look at them?
They think we're cute and adorable too!
Give your fluffy loves some X's and O's for me!
Have a wonderful Valentines Day!

Welcome home Sedona!
We finally got to bring this hansom little guy home! And we can't get enough of him.
He's got such a sweet personality and loves to curl up in your lap to sleep.
When he's in a playful mood he'll bound across the room toward you! He loves to chase a ball around the hardwood floor and trounce through the kiddie tunnel.
We're so excited for the fun adventures that lay ahead this coming year with Scout, and our new boy, Sedona.

Gobble, Gobble! Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
I wanted to make Turkey frame soup from my leftover Thanksgiving turkey, so as I was separating the meat from the turkey frame, I noticed there was a lot of leftover skin, fat, and small pieces of turkey meat that was going to go to waste.
...I also noticed Scout by my feet anxiously waiting for anything to be thrown her way... So I thought, hey! why not make something fun and tasty for her too! That way I'm feeling good about using every bit of the turkey, and I'm making my pup happy at the same time. I threw all of the scraps of turkey in a bowl with some left over sweet potatoes and added water to make it soupy and help the fat dissolve evenly. |
When the fat dissolved, I scooped a spoonful of turkey and sweet potato into each of the cubes, and then poured the rest of the broth into the tray.
Then I just popped them into the freezer, and now when a special treat is called for, I can pop one of these yummy turkey-tato ice cubes out, and I'll have one happy, thankful pup! Simple, easy, and a way to avoid wasting any of those delicious leftovers! I'm all for that. |

H a p p y H o w l - o w e e n !
The Headless Horseman and his steed, Scout, once again emerge from their slumber to haunt and entertain the neighborhood... Mwahahahaha!
Here at NK Ranch, we LOVE Halloween, and we've decorated just about every corner of our house. So along with adding Skeletons and Ghouls to our garden, and spiders around our doorstep, we thought it only fitting to have our pup join in the festivities!
Nate made the costume out of dollar store items, D.I. baby clothes, and one of my old purses for the saddle! It turned out Spooktacularly (:
At our Obedience Club last night they hosted a costume contest, and oh my gosh it was so fun! There were some pretty creative costumes. You had Minions, Unicorns, prison inmates, a Sharknado... tough competition! At the contest, Scout and his Headless Horseman ended up winning Second Place and was given a prize of delicious dog treats (and candy for the humans). Way to go Scout!

Howl-N-Growl Parade
We also had a fantastic time at the Howl-n-Growl Parade at the Pets at Peace Mortuary. There were some fun booths with games for the kids and treats for both dogs and their owners! There were even some cute kittens hanging out with all the pups that were looking to be adopted. Everyone looked so great in their costumes, we saw a bulldog dressed as Popeye, the cutest dachshund puppy dressed as a hotdog (they won the scariest costume prize haha), Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz crew, Moana, Maui, and Hayhay.
So many cute, fun ideas, and it was hard for the judges to decide on the winners. We decided to dress up this time as a Cowboy/Indian Posse with baby as a friendly forest fox and our Scout as an Indian Paint Horse. We used the saddle from the headless horseman costume to complete the look. We ended up winning the best group costume! Yeehaw!
Winning is fun, I'll be honest, we like to win. But it's really more fun to be there and to be part of something both us and our dogs can enjoy. Those memories are far sweeter than anything else and we're glad Scout is part of our family so we can do these things together. That's really what we love the most!
I will also remember stapling my finger trying to fix that saddle of hers at ten o' clock in the morning before the parade started... My finger still hurts.

Golden Spike Dog Obedience Club
Scout passed her Basic I: Focus and Impulse control class! Woohoo! To pass, she had to show her impulse control by not focusing on distractions.
First we went through a distraction obstacle course, which included: lay down and stay on a mat when the door bell rings and is answered, leaving alone toys and treats along the pathway, passing people and dogs calmly, and approaching people calmly and politely.
And lastly, for the final test we placed bits of hot dog all around her, and we even put one on her paw, and told her to "leave it". She did wonderfully! I actually want to take this again to polish her skills, it was such a good class for us to take!
That same night we took our Canine Good Citizen test and she passed that as well! Way to go Scout! Happy Momma brag: She did the best sit/stay out of the class!
For now we are onto Basic II: Obedience with Scout. This is perfecting, and correcting what we've already been practicing in order to get ready for the Show ring, and for Agility. Our first class was an evaluation of what we already knew, and then worked on the Show ring can and can't do's. Such as keeping your shoulders square, and starting out on your left foot, and how brisk of a walk to take. I've realized the show ring is just as much for the people as it is for the dogs!
As our first dog, and first time getting into Show and Agility, we are learning just as much as she is, and soon enough we'll be starting over again when we get our new pup, Sedona! Can't wait!

Echo at the crest of Autumn
We just got back from a fantastic weekend in Echo, Utah!
About an hour and a half away from Ogden, Echo is a small town 28 miles from the Idaho border. Echo is well forested with Aspen trees and an abundance of grassy hills. If you are a four wheeling fan, this area also has great trails that go on for miles through red rock canyons.
We got to our campsite around 6:30 in the evening where we met up with some family and friends and made up ourselves some hobo style dinners. Meanwhile, we let the dogs roam free to find their own fun.
Scout and Naga made their way down to the pond and as you can see, they'd found a prized stick and spent the next few hours playing tug of war and chasing after each other through and around the pond. We'd lost any chance of catching fish that night.

With camp set up, and our bellies full of fire cooked deliciousness (including reeses cup s'mores), we sat around the flames and talked until close to midnight, while the dogs played night games with the three other labs, and after exhausting themselves they eventually found their way under the deck to doze off.
It was a full moon, so no stars, but the sky was still gorgeous with the illuminated clouds and silvered halo tree tops. We just laid in our tent watching the sky for a while before falling asleep. The dogs fell asleep quickly and slept as peacefully as we did that night. The next morning the pups woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed, tummies full of poached eggs and oatmeal, they were off for a game of fetch! |
We got to the lake early afternoon, but we didn't beat the heat. It hit the high 90's by 12:00pm and nothing sounds more refreshing in that heat than wading out knee high in the waves and having some fun with your dog.
Scout and I made up a new game of search and rescue with the beach rocks, while Nate and my brother voyaged off in the canoe to see if they could find better fishing.
Our game was simple, I would find a rock, throw it into the waves and Scout would dive in after it. She would bury her head and snout in the water until eventually she pulled out a rock and brought it back to me, and then I'd throw it back in again.

It was a good way to get her more excited about the water and teaching herself to hold her breath, while it was very entertaining for me to watch!
The kids showed up so we traded in our game and helped them search for crawdads in the shallows. The ones we found went in a water filled empty cupcake tin, so they could see their fishy friends.
By 3:00pm it was time we called it a day and took that hour and a half drive so we could make it home by dinner. That's the time the dogs sleep, and we listen to the radio while thinking about the next place we want to camp.
Fall is creeping up on us and we can see the leaves already beginning to change and turn red and yellow. There won't be too many weekends left before the ice freezes over the lake and it's ice fishing season again!

Fun at the Sheepdog Championship Festival
Fun at the Sheepdog Championship Festival
In the first week of September, Soldier Hollow hosts the Annual Sheepdog Championship Trials. This event showcases world class sheepdogs, some of whom are semi-finalists for the world championship in the Netherlands!
Soldier Hollow is nestled in the hillsides of the Swiss styled city in Midway, Utah. At the time we were there, Midway was also holding its own festivities.
We learned passing through that Swiss days goes on the same week as the sheepdog trails. The festival celebrates everything Swiss, to commemorate the Swiss settlers that founded Midway. This festival embraces three of my favorite things...cloggers, cheese, and lederhosen! I've put that event on my mental calendar for next year.

" You look Fetching "
The Sheepdog trials were sponsored by Vita bone, which makes healthy choice dog treats. We stopped by their booth to find out what their brand is all about. One of their main points is that their treats do not contain any corn, soy, or artificial flavors. They are also made with real meats, fruits, and veggies. Sounds promising!
They gave us some of their tasty treats for our pups to try, so we went and took our picture next to their truck as payment for their kindness.
...Actually they said if we tagged ourself in this picture we could have a chance of winning a years supply of treats. So we did.

Here's a sport to get your adrenaline pumping
We found our way to the Sheep dog trials, which is exhilarating! Seriously. This was our first time ever really watching a live sheepdog competition, and it was amazing.
To break down what I know so far, the sheepherder stands at the base of a hill where up above is a herd of 5 sheep waiting to be guided down, through an obstical course, and back into their pen. The Sheepdogs job is to obey the sheepherders whistle commands and steer the sheep through a series of gates, then down to the base where the sheep are separated and then reunited. The finale is getting all the sheep safely back into the box pen. |
The catch is that it's timed. They have 10 minutes to complete the course.
At first, it's just fascinating to watch how the dogs can follow the whistle commands from yards away, and how absolutely focused they are on reading and countering every move the sheep make. Then, when they reach the pen, the sheepherder opens the gate. But the sheep are not easily persuaded. By the time this happens, they only have a minute or so left on the clock. The Sheepdog has to be patient enough to inch the sheep slowly closer to the gate and into the pen by gentle persuasion, otherwise the sheep scatter and those precious seconds are lost trying to regain the herd. |
I literally sat there on the grass biting my nails and squeezing Nates arm because there was only 10 seconds left and they were so close to the finish, and everything relied on the dogs patience and listening to the command of its owner. ahhh! it was excruciatingly slow progress. 5 seconds left and they're still at the mouth of the gate! Could they do it?!
...Yes, woohoo!!! They made it in with three seconds to spare.
Man it was crazy. Ya know, we really seek out the thrills of life. Sheepdog trials are now one of them.

It's Raining Dogs!
Another one of the events they had there was the splash dogs. The goal of this sport is to see how far the dog can jump into the water after a toy. This sport originally started by water fowl hunters needing a dog that could retrieve their fallen game as quickly as possible from the water before sinking.
The further the dog jumped, the quicker their prize could be retrieved.
This little guy in the picture seemed to out jump all the larger water dogs! We got splashed more than a few times, but it felt great in the afternoon heat!

Do Chickens have large Talons?
they had so many interesting things going on there! Sheep Sheering lessons, A demo on bee keeping, guys in kilts throwing things over a pole, and exotic animals! They had a booth of raptors- the great birds of prey. On my right was a falcon and on my left is whats called an eagle owl, the largest species of owl. Pretty cool!
The fun part though was the crow that would take your dollar bills and put it in the donation box. Really, if all donation boxes had a crow collector, I think there would be more donations in the world.
That's going to be my answer to world peace if I'm ever in a beauty pageant.

Last but certainly not least, we made it to the Agility dog course. These dogs were also nationally acclaimed and it was so fun to watch these quick, energetic dogs run through tunnels and over jumps with precision.
We can't wait to get Scout started in this. A few more obedience classes and she's as good as there!
The Soldier Hollow Sheepdog Championship was an absolute win, both for amusement and educational purposes. If you ever get the opportunity to attend this event, I highly recommend it.

These are a few of my favorite things...
This... Is what I live to see every day.
While I work from home, I keep these two together to play and have fun. It's turning out to be quite a friendship I hoped that they would have. They are inseparable.

August Trek Through the Mountain Trail
This is always a beautiful trail to hike! We had Naga over for the weekend, so we figured we'd have our day with the dogs in the mountains. This hike takes you from one valley to the next. It crosses through a canyon and takes you up above the resovior so you can see the lake and the beautiful farmland below. I love the smell of the fresh air and pine trees up here! It's a blessing to live around such a beautiful country side.

Operation Underground Railroad
O.U.R is a foundation to help stop child traffiking. Through raised money they set up missions that send out specialized undercover teams to go in, find and catch those traffiking, rescue the children, and give them a new life.
This program is so amazing and has rescued over 680 kids lives! Scout loved sporting her O.U.R shirt in the parade! She always enjoys being involved in a good cause... and a good walk! |

Bedtime Stories
Mantua Reservoir, a Desert Paradise
We spent three days up at Mantua having fun with family out in the water Kayaking, Paddle boarding and just being beach bums. There's nothing like being outdoors to forget all your worries and enjoy the beauties God's given us.
Scout is becoming increasingly confident on the paddle boards. She'll jump on as I paddle out and when we got to the bouies she would jump off and swim along side me back to shore.
Scout was in my father in law's kayak at one point and she decided to jump ship, and bring him with her. He flipped and his glasses fell into the water! Nate and my sister in law dived down into the water where he was and found them, thank goodness! Scout hasn't quite mastered being a seeing eye dog just yet...
In the morning we took a walk around the lake with the girls, which is about 5 miles around. She happily trotted a few feet ahead of us bounding in and out of the underbrush and waterways like a rabbit, having the time of her life! At times she would disappear into the tall grass off to the side of the trail and when we would get close to where she was, she would bolt out just in front of our legs scaring the living daylights out of us. Then she would trot back with her tongue lolling out like nothing had happened. When we got back, we cooled off with some freshly cut cantaloupe and watermelon and then headed to the beach again to play and hang out.
It was a fantastic trip filled with fun, family, and memories. Can't wait for our next camping trip in a few weeks!

Getting the hang of Ranch life
The Causey Dam experience
First campout for our Scout! We were interested to find out how she would do seeing as it would be her first experience camping outdoors. We crossed our fingers she wouldn't come across a moose or mountain lion because knowing her she'd probably chase after them without a second thought!
She really exceeded all of our expectations. With Naga, a seasoned camper by her side, they played their hearts out puddle jumping, and running around through the trees and underbrush. Then when it got dark she and Naga sat with us by the fire (hoping they would get their first taste of s'mores). No s'mores, but they did get treated with some delicious fire cooked corn.
Then came time to snuggle up in our sleeping bag and get some sleep for the fun we'd have the next day. Scout curled up on her bed and slept through the night. Again, she impressed us with how well she handled her first time sleeping outdoors.
Bright and early we made breakfast and headed to the lake to fish. With us in our kayaks, and our brother and sister in law on their paddleboards, we loaded up the gear and the pups and we were off through the river bends to find the lucky trout that would be our dinner.
I'll be honest... Scout jumped out of the kayak within a minute of being out on the water and then realized what a huge mistake that was and then begged to be let back in. Nate pulled her back in and then she proceeded to cry just about the whole trip down the lake haha poor Nate had to deal with a sad soggy Scout. There is a happy ending to this water story, she eventually warmed up to the water and got used to being in the kayaks and I think she really enjoyed herself! She ended up playing catch with Naga out in the water for a good hour and even swam out to meet me in my kayak! Progress, progress. She'll be a water dog yet! We then met up with another friend and her dog Nila and we hiked Skull Crack Trail. The dogs led the pack and they all happily greeted every passer-by, dog and human alike. One thing I would like to brag about that I'm most proud of is how well Scout listened to us when we called her back, or told her to stay. She's 8 months old, and already she's become a golden dog when it comes to obedience. Training has payed off immensely and we have a dog we'll be able to take with us wherever we go without worry of her getting into danger or being a nuisance to other people and dogs, because she knows her boundaries and she listens to our commands.
One of the best bits of wisdom from the Vets I picked up when I was working at the clinic is "A happy dog, is a dog who has structure". This applies to people too, that when we have structure in our families and community, it makes life simpler and easier to get along with those we live with. When we are in unity, bonds are strengthened and it creates safety and understanding.
Dogs love to please, and when we communicate to them what makes us happy, and they understand what makes us happy, they will work their hearts out to please you.
And nothing makes me happier, than a happy dog!
She slept like this the entire ride home. That is one happy, exhausted pup!
April Showers bring May... Snow??
Songbird Trail
We had a fun time hiking this beautiful trail! We started off early in the morning and it smelled like sage and rain, and man I love that smell... so refreshing!
There were lots of different scenery changes as you hiked. When you start at the trail head, you can hear all the different songbirds chatting away in the trees above (as appropriately named, Songbird Trail) you passed through dense woods, open wildflower meadows, and a sage covered overlook with clusters of prickly pear cactus!
We let Scout off leash and she ran from plant, to brush, to trees sniffing out all the different smells as well. We wanted to practice her come when called, and stay commands as we hiked the trail (we've been working on that during her morning runs) and we are very impressed on how well she is learning. She never really got farther than 10 feet away, and if she got out of eyesight from us, she would wait until we were back in distance. Good girl Scout!
I think she enjoyed the hike more than we did. We'll be taking plenty more hikes this summer Scout, don't you worry!

First time out in the open water
This was her first time in open water and we were excited to see what she would think, seeing how she loved chasing the gutter water and playing in streams. Well, she loved the water! For all of 5 seconds... We threw a ball out for her to chase and she went after it, but I think she realized that the water was freezing and got back out. She did love playing on the beach with us the rest of the time, and running around saying hi to all the other beach goers. (She photobombed a couple getting their engagement pictures taken...oops!) We'll wait until it's a little warmer to go swimming again.
But it was fun while it lasted! |
Hooray!! Scout Passed Obedience 1 training She completed 10 basic skills |
1. Dog must pay attention to the handler.
2. Dog must walk in the heel position on a loose lead. 3. Dog must be able to change paces while heeling. 4. Dog executes left, right and about turns while heeling. 5. Dog can do a sit stay for 1 minute with handler 6 feet away. 6. Dog can do a down stay for 2 minutes with handler 6 feet away. 7. Dog comes to owner when called. 8. Dog can perform finish. 9. Dog can do a stand and stand/stay. 10. Dog must be well mannered around other dogs and people. |
Her basic skills have improved so much since the beginning of this course! When we started this, my main goal was just to be able to get her in a good social surrounding where she could be in the middle of distraction, yet still pay attention.
I also wanted her to get that good interaction with other dogs that were well mannered.
As a first time dog owner and Australian Shepherd owner, I've learned that Aussies are very independent, excitable, and maybe just Scout in particular, wanted to be the center of attention and would bark almost the entire time we were in class.
Throughout the course though, my husband and I (and all of our fellow classmates) noticed that she continually improved throughout the course. By the end she was much less excitable and demanding, and much more relaxed and intentive.
Scout was also one of the youngest dogs in our class, but she would usually win when it came to obedience games. She loves to please and loves to show what she knows. As soon as she gets it, it sticks with her.
She's a high energy dog, and very intelligent, which is what we absolutely love! That's why we chose the Australian Shepherd. You definitely need to be devoted to training and working with your dog on a daily basis, but there are SO many more positives than there are negatives. Growing a good bond with your Aussie from the beginning will be rewarded with a relationship that will never be forgotten.
Anything worth earning is never easy.
In a few months we will be starting Obedience 2, and Agility! In the mean time we will be polishing the skills she has learned in Obedience 1

One of the Perks of having a Dog...
You never have to eat alone.
Scouts Room
We are upgrading our Laundry room (Which is where Scout sleeps) and I thought I'd make it a little more cozy for her. Nate made the dog bed, and added some used horse shoes given to Nate by the farrier at his work. He also made the dog food bowl out of an old ammo box from Smith and Edwards, which was originally part of our wedding decorations! We keep her toys and treats inside it.
I think she likes it her cozy little nook, don't you?
Family Pictures!
Man... they are growing up so fast.
My expectation of school photos vs. what really happens...
We are happy to announce Scout is starting obedience school this month! This is just the beginning to what will eventually lead us to the real fun stuff... Agility training! We start February 28th. (Lets hope her school photo gets her good side...)
Spring time means frisbee time!
Happy February (:
First hike of the spring to Waterfall Canyon in Ogden, UT
It was sooo nice to get outside again after the cold winter. There was still quite a bit of snow and ice on the trail, so we had to take it slowly and carefully on the way back down, but it was oh so gorgeous when we got to the top! The waterfall was still mostly frozen which made it very pretty to sit and look at. Scout had a blast running the trail and eating snow along the way. She also liked to show off her snow bunny skills by trekking a lot more easily over the snow and ice than we were!

Zzzz.....
How many hours do you think puppies sleep a day?
Normally they sleep an average of 18-22 hours a day as they grow and mature.
Adult dogs will sleep an average of 12 hours a day.

Play Time!
Here's a tip to choosing the best toys for your dog: "If you can dent it with your thumb, your choice is not dumb." (Made that up myself.) Soft toys are better for your dogs teeth. If it's not dentable or bendable, like hard bones or deer antlers, it can break your dogs teeth resulting in an unwanted and expensive veterinary visit, to get a light cure or possibly a tooth extraction (I saw quite a few of those working at the Vet Hospital due to chewing on the wrong type of toy). Also stick with a rubber ball rather than a tennis ball, the fibers on the tennis ball wear down the enamel on your dogs teeth. Imagine what chewing on a tennis ball could do to your own teeth... ouch, makes my mouth hurt just thinking about it!
Below are just some teeth-friendly toy options for your pup. Kong brand toys are always great. Soft frisbees are always easier on your dogs mouth as well. You can find these at most pet stores, or you can usually find some pretty cool toys on Amazon.com

yet so different...
Having fun outdoors 🌿
We decieded we'd take her on our ice fishing trip for the first time to see how she would do. When we got out to our fishing spot, I tried to set her in the sled so she wouldn't freeze her little paws off while we drilled the hole in the ice and set up for fishing, but she insisted that she sit in my lap the entire time rather than in the sled by herself (Aussies always want to be involved in what you are doing). Good thing she's still small enough to still fit on my lap! She also loved to say hello to ALL the other fellow ice fisherman that passed by.
It's really cool (Literally) to be out on the lake at night with the snow glowing underneath you and the lights of the ice fishers scattered around the lake, almost like winter fireflies! Needless to say it was a fun adventure.

I lost my two front teeth!
Let the teething episode begin. They can start losing their teeth as early as 4 months of age. Soft chew toys and ice cubes work great for this! Or if you're in the middle of winter like we are, snowballs work as a great gum soother, and a fun game! ☃
Bath time!
"How often should I give my dog a bath?" The Answer is... As needed. Bathing a dog too often can strip away the natural oils on the skin and fur that can leave your dog with dry skin, and a dull coat. Use a dog specific shampoo and conditioner; I prefer mine with Aloe and Oatmeal to help soothe the skin and keep the coat soft.
This is the brand of Shampoo and Conditioner I'm using on Scout right now, and it works great. It's Vetoquinol with Aloe and Oatmeal. I bought this from my Veterinary Hospital. Your Veterinarian can also recommend what Shampoo is best for your dogs specific needs.
Hanging out with the girls before Naga, the Golden Retriever, goes back home.
Snow day today for the pups! Snuggling up after playing out in the cold
